High-Altitude Pseudo-Satellite (HAPS)

A High-Altitude Pseudo-Satellite (HAPS) works in the capability gap between a satellite and a UAV for unmanned commercial and defence purposes, such as providing temporary internet access above remote locations. These remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) are capable of persistent operations over many weeks, whilst being exclusively powered by solar power.

Discussion

Our brief required us to 'fit-out' a ground-control system for the pseudo-satellite, into a customised shipping container.

While estimates from the client had stated that it would be completed in 12 weeks, our Specialist Hardware team sought to complete it in 3 weeks, freeing up the client's workload and manpower of their own engineers.

Design

As part of our de-risking and consultancy service, we delivered detailed CAD drawings, updated process instructions and design documents outlining the client's network and computing requirements. This resulted in a durable and fully integrated system, comprised of energy-efficient mini-PCs and a turn-key compute and storage rack solution, all built using the latest Intel and Juniper COTs hardware.

Delivery

Working with the client's amazing technology, we built an intelligent system that can be theoretically operated in even the most extreme of conditions for remotely piloting the pseudo-satellites from anywhere in the world.
