I bought the both Seagate 1TB and Western Digital 1TB for a Desktop running XP Pro. I expected the WG to be better as it was more money and had rav reviews. In fact the WD was noticeably slower and noisy. Whereas the Seagate was absolutely silent, and booted in half the time. No axe to grind, but having tested both as main system drives, Seagate is first choice.

Does exactly what you would expect from a cheap 1TB hard drive. Neither silent, nor fast, If you want those 2 features buy an SSD. This is exactly what it is, cheap storage with a 2 years guarantee.

I recently had this drive replace a faulty Western Digital Drive which I purchased and got returned (great return support & service from Novatech as always!). After installing the drive in my system, I have constantly been disturbed by an ongoing 'chirp' / 'click' sound which apparently is a result of Seagates stupid APM Head parking feature. This feature also causes the drive to spin down instantly after any usage, causing lag and system haults whilst the drive starts up again. Many other users online and even on some of the other Seagate drives on here have complained about this feature. Seagate in response have made a firmware fix for this however I was so annoyed to find out that there was another flaw in the Seagate firmware on my drive which prevented it from being updated! I hope Novatech will let me return this as I have just spent quite a lot of cash on new fans for making my system near silent, this drive just ruins that! Avoid it at all costs.
