Bought these when I'd lost all hope of restoring networking capabilities on my ancient Samsung laptop (think the wireless card's finally died in it), and they work perfectly out the box. Plugged them both into the same wall socket and pressed the link-up button to 'register' them, situated both adapters where I needed them to be, plugged in the ethernet cables and away it went. It's delivering a solid 10mbps with the router-based adapter plugged into a surge protecting socket strip, which is plenty for me to watch youtube vids etc without the dreaded 'stutter-buffer'. Only downside is I've now got a cable plugged into my laptop and need it to stay there to have the internet, but considering I never move it, I'm not that fussed. Also, it seems Cat 6 cables render it completely useless as I bought a pair for this (not realizing it came with two reasonably long cat 5 cables in the box - D'oh!), plugged them in and didn't get a bean. Switching over to the cables provided in the box makes it work a charm. Considering the amount of problems I've had with other bits of kit designed to resolve issues that only make you tear more hair out when they sit there and refuse to work, these are well worth the money.

Purchased in Sept 2011, been fine until the weekend when one of the units failed to power on. Pretty poor lifespan. But whilst it worked it was faultless!

Like most of the other reviewers these worked straight out of the box, pairing on first power-up, or using the button. I addedd an additional PA211 to my set up from the voucher redemption offer making them even better value than usual. The only difficulty I had was with the bundled management utility if you're trying to be a bit clever with set-up and configurartion. The CD included comes with drives and utilities for the entire range of powerline adapters - the 'right' one kept hanging when it tried to scan for other adaptors. Easily solved after a good while of googling and trial and error - the utilitiy for the more recently released 500mbs adaptors solved the problem!!

I bought these with the fact they may not work in mind but took the risk anyway, how I need not have worried they are superb, I have an old house that the wiring is 20 years old and they work 100%, I now have my PC working as a HTPC from two rooms away, so that's £33 vs £250 to build another machine, Now lets look at the performance aspect, these are rated up to 200Mbps, the best I've seen is 170Mbps and an average seems around 110 - 160, when I first set up I had both in extension sockets and it would only do 10Mbps, I now have one in an extension and the other direct in the wall and get the good speeds, nothing I've piped through has failled and that includes BR 3D video, Had some trial and errors as well, sadly TP aren't that good with explanation's for their products, the sticking point was the 128 encryption, I tried changing the unit passwords and they simply won't accept the passwords on the labels, however, I've since found out that pairing them also activates the security so all good there, I did consider the cheaper NT own brand ones which are slightly less money but look identical, the crux was the cheaper ones have lower security measures, So to sum up, a great product in my experience, bear in mind the speeds rating, the eth port is the clue, if you have a 10/100 port then there's no point buying faster ones as you will get bottle necked by the port on your router/MB, but like I said the media content only requires a certain speed and these run well and above that anyway.

I was really pleased with these. We live in an old house with thick walls so wifi is no good and ripping up floorboards to take ethernet cables not much fun either. This works brilliantly. Living in the country we only get a maximum of 10mbps anyway, and the TP-link doesn't seem to affect this performance at all. And yes, you just plug it in and switch it on.

They have a place but You can't get 200mbps or even 100mbps My house rewired about 10 years back so quite modern. Best speed I got 30-40mbps and reading around that's about what most get ( the rest get less ;) ). Now up to 200mbps? how? they only come with 10/100 ethernet ports (I should have read the specs). I was expecting "up to" 200mbps between two of these units but that's not possible is it with 10/100 ports
Hi, The 200Mbps is the powerline speed not the wired port speed. The wired speed is 10/100mbps. TP-Link state this product is capable of up to 200mbps in the right situation.

I would rather use conventional network cables, but using these is so easy and so effective that the job of installing the cables never gets done (in either my or my son's homes)

Very pleased with this purchase. Just bought a Samsung Smart TV and a USB wireless dongle to connect to my network. The trouble was that the signal just wasn't good enough to stream high def video to the TV. Swapped the WiFi dongle for a connection to one of these and solved the problem instantly. Absolutely nothing to do other than to plug them in and connect the cables. No pairing required - they worked straight out of the box. Unusual and surprising for a piece of high-tech equipment !

Excellent piece of kit. I have 6 of these installed in my house to form a network for various devices that cannot use WiFi. Just plug them all in within 2 minutes of each other and you are up and working. No need to use the pairing button. Excellent connection speeds, no lag when 3 of my TV's are streaming from BBC iPlayer.
