Product Overview

The NETGEAR N300 Wireless Dual Band ADSL2+ Modem Router offers dual band technology which avoids interference and ensures top speeds and the greatest range for demanding applications, such as streaming HD video and multiplayer gaming. Complete with a built-in DSL modem, it is compatible with all major DSL Internet service providers.

Product Features

Wireless N Technology
Wireless N is the next generation of high-speed Wi-Fi, capable of delivering the range and capacity to support today's most bandwidth-hungry applications, like streaming HD (High Definition) video, voice and music. Wireless N offers you a greater range, signal strength and wireless speed when compared to that of older Wireless G products. Upgrade your wireless network to the power of N today!

Dual Band Technology
Traditionally, most wireless computing and other wireless devices used 2.4 Gigahertz (GHz). This meant that all wireless computing and network devices were using the same 2.4 GHz bandwidth. This can lead to interference and slower performance. Recently, network equipment manufacturers are now offering 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz range. The 5.0 GHz band is a relatively new, less used spectrum that is not as crowded. For certain applications like video or where you have many devices, you can split the load between the two bands. It’s like having two wires.

ReadySHARE USB Storage Access
Easy shared access from any computer in your home network to an external USB hard drive connected to your router. Simply plug your external USB storage device into the USB port on the router and any computer connected to your network will be able to access the data stored on the USB storage device.

DLNA Support
Play videos, photos and music stored on an attached USB hard drive to any DNLA connected TV, game console or media player such as an Xbox 360 or Playstation 3.

Netgear Live Parental Controls
Netgear Live Parental Controls, powered by OpenDNS, is a router-based Web filtering solution available on Netgear Wireless-N router and gateway products.

Total home Protection
Live Parental Controls protects all Internet-connected devices through the router. It not only protects computers, but also set-top box, iPhone, iPod, and gaming consoles. You no longer need to worry about phones and gaming consoles not being protected when kids use them in their own rooms. Even guest computers accessing the Internet through your network are protected.

Flexible Settings
You may have your own computer or you may be sharing a computer with other members in the family. Default and per-user settings allow customizable configurations for different computing arrangement and personalize the settings for each person. Per-time setting allows Internet access during scheduled time slots, to help manage work/play balance.

Minimal Software Installation
Installation requires a one-time installation of the Management Utility. Once Live Parental Controls are set up, the software runs in the background and does not protrude normal Internet usage.

Netgear Green
Netgear is committed to developing innovative new products and new product features that increase energy efficiency, use fewer resources, and meet or exceed global environmental standards. We are setting comprehensive benchmarks for products that carry the Netgear Green logo. Netgear Green means Innovation - a commitment to smarter, greener products, helping businesses and homes use less energy and save money.

WPS - Push 'N' Connect
Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) is a standard for easy and secure wireless network set up and connections. Netgears's products use the name Push 'n' Connect for WPS. To use WPS, your product must support WPS and be compatible with WPA security. WPS can automatically set up a random network name (SSID) and strong WPA wireless security for wireless routers, access points, computers, adapters, Wi-Fi phones, and other consumer electronics devices.

Where do I start? After about 3 weeks I've finally managed to get a stable internet connection for more than a few days out of this router having replaced the Netgear supplied microfilter with a cheap (but seemingly good) one that I purchased from Novatech some time back. I've currently got just the router and a phone plugged into the one filter on my master socket, so now I need to see if it remains stable when I reconnect my extension wiring (all devices, mostly Sky boxes, also have Novateech microfiilters in place, so fingers crossed). With the Netgear supplied microfilter the connection would drop several times a day, particularly so if the phone had also been used. Unfortunately the duff micro-filter supplied with this router is not my only issue. By default this router will only run at 54Mbps on the 2.4GHz band (most devices still depend upon 2.4GHz band) and runs at 300Mbps only on 5GHz. We only have one 5Ghz enabled device and I don't want to slow the network connection down on all the others so I've reconfigured the router to run at 300Mbps on the 2.4Ghz band which is very simple to do but does mean that it no longer supports the 5GHz band. However wireless range is pretty poor, which I find a bit shocking for a Netgear product as they used to have such a good reputation. My old cheap Philips Wireless N Router was sited in the same location centrally in my hallway and reached all around the house, but this Netgear (moderately expensive) router does not reliably reach all upstairs rooms, where wireless connectivity frequently drops out. But at least the router seems to hold its internet connection now. I probably should have just bought a cheaper router with ugly but effective sticky out antennae.

not impressed with this router. is now back with Netgear for repair/replacement for 2nd time due to slow connection speeds and regular drop outs. At cost of over £100 this represents poor value for money particularly when compared with the free Zyxel router provided by my ISP which runs without fault and achieves much better speeds! . Have asked for a refund from Novatech but been declined. Very disappointing when I notice that another customer was offered a refund on a similar Netgear router that was also faulty.

This router is amazing with the true dualband as my wireless lan card picks up but i suggest that you use it with Netgear rangemax items as that is when it works at its best. I have 1 computer through ethernet and 3 through the wireless, and iven when the items are further away with a lower wireless signal the router does not them and increasess the speed 8 times at distances through the wireless than my older router. The item also arrived on the next day as intended so thanks Novatech for this wonderful solution and the outstanding delivery once again.

If you''re not of a technical level to install this router manually, its CD will guide you effortlessly through the process. It has proven to be extremely reliable as it has not once dropped a connection - even with my desktop, laptop and 360 running simultaneously. This is probably due to the dual band (2.4 GHz and 5GHz) and MIMO features. You will need a Wireless -N adapter - for your laptop or game console for example - to make use of the 5 GHz channel otherwise you will connect using the slower but more common 2.4 GHz channel. Its overall appearance is pleasing but you can turn off the flashing blue LED''s by pressing the plastic dome downwards for two seconds and then releasing. Although it can run quite warm, I would definitely reccomend this router.
