My keyboard arrived this morning and its really exactly what I expected. Great price for a mechanical keyboard and you notice the difference instantly. Feels so much nicer to type on then a membrane board. I chose this key switch type (Cherry MX Blue) over any other because they feel the most responsive. They give both tactile and audio feedback of when the key is activated. I had gone round several well known tech and PC stores trying to find display models of various keyboards so I could test each key switch out and I fully recommend doing this for anyone interested in getting a mechanical board. Each switch feels very different to the others. Browns feel similar to blues but do not have as much of a clicky sound. Reds and Blacks are a smooth press all the way down and are near silent other then bottoming out the key. They have different levels of force needed to activate the key so it all comes down to preference so as it is a big investment really do research and try and test each switch type out before purchasing. On this note I think it would be a good idea if Novatech had a test panel set up in their stores with one key from all the switch types they supply. This would have been extremely useful for me and would encourage more people to buy mechanical keyboard when they realise how much nicer they are to type on and use. Moving on to the features the keyboard has. The LED backlight has 4 different brightness levels and then off completely. It provides a good range of light and the keyboard looks excellent lit up. The media keys are nice to have but I would prefer them to be set up on the 'F#' keys above the 'FN' key. Currently the media keys are on 'F1' to 'F6' but they would be better placed on '7-12' because the 'FN' key is to the right side of the space bar. I also prefer a volume rocker or roll bar instead of keys but they work fine which is great. The layout is UK which is ideal and there are no cardinal sins with the key layout.'Caps Lock', 'Right Shift' are nice and big as is the 'enter' and 'backspace' keys just like they should be. The USB and audio pass through is very useful, initially I thought "nice feature that I won't use all that much" but being able to plug my phone or iPod into the keyboard rather then the front of my tower is very nice. As it is with my headset as well. Each key is laser etched all the way through the key with that keys symbol which will prevent the symbol from ever coming off due to grease or constant use which is nice. The finish on the keyboard is perfect. Non-glossy all over and sort of a non-slip soft-touch rubber feel all over the keyboard which is great as it does not pick up finger prints. The only thing I was slightly disappointed by was the 4 included spare keycaps are a thin and quite tacky feeling orange plastic. The colour is fine and they work well to emphasise WASD or arrow keys for example but the plastic used on those keys is so thin the backlight from each key shines through and doesn't look particularly nice. I would have liked to see a better quality keycap for those but its no big loss. The 'Q' and 'Space' keys have the QPAD 'Q' Logo on them which looks nice. The only other branding on the main part of the keyboard is 'QPAD PRO GAMING GEAR' between the arrow keys and the 'Delete' cluster. If you attach the wrist rest which is the same soft-touch rubber material. But that has the 'Q' logo in the bottom right and 'We <3 Gaming' in the bottom middle which is completely covered up when typing. Things to note: For the "N Key Roll Over" feature you have to connect the board using the PS2 connector because USB is limited to 5 or 6 KRO. If you look at something from Filco or Ducky the price of this keyboard is £20-70 cheaper then their near identical products. It does lack some features from some of the major players like Corsair's K90 or Logitech's G710 such as no macro keys or lighting zones. But for the price or if you are looking for a Cherry MX Blue keyboard then you can't go wrong here. 4/5 stars simply because of the less the perfect spare keycaps. If they were a thicker plastic then it would be 5 stars because it would be exactly what is advertised at a brilliant price. If QPAD were to make a successor to this keyboard I would like to see one column of macro keys on the left of the board and implement a volume roller instead of the keys but I didn't buy this board expecting those. Great product. Also as always absolutely excellent service from Novatech. Ordered the keyboard online Saturday and with Free 3-4 working day delivery and it arrived Tuesday morning before 8am. which is 2 days earlier then expected.
