I also tried these speakers.. had the same experience, then I bought the Microlab X16's and i'm very happy.. although can be lacking crispness but overall performance is great, the subwoofer has room filling thunderous bass, good midrange from the speakers... shame novatech have stopped stocking them.

I bought this system in April 2012 .... The desktop volume/ phones/ mic unit is very handy and effective.. The bass driver is V GOOD! LOTS of bass boost. The smaller satellite speakers are VERY "tinny". Crisp yes, but the *system* lacks mid range. I binned the satellite speakers and used my old amplified units which had GREAT mid and top but lacked a good Bass. So now I have a FAB system..... Well I did,..... until the this Speedlink system died.... (August 2012 ).... I am taking it back this week for a replacement.. Still a good system for the money though.
