I love this. Excellent product. Does exactly what its meant to and does it with out me having to worry about the electricity being interupted. I have it on a Synology 409+ and it will last for 30 mins.

The unit is very easy to install. Plug it into the mains supply using your power lead that was connected to your PC and then plug one of the IEC320 leads (two provided) into the PC and monitor. The unit has an RJ45 connector labelled Data Port on the rear of the unit which did confuse me when I was selecting the product, when the documentation indicates the unit has USB or RS232 connectivity. This all becomes clear when setting up the unit as APC supply a lead with a USB plug on one end and a RJ45 on the other. I assume the RJ45 socket on the unit is used for multiple models but the connectivity is actually USB on the PC.I Downloaded the Powerchute software from the APC web page, although I assume it comes on the two CDs they provide. ThIS gives a selection of good intuitive status and configurations pages and lets you enable the APC unit to switch your PC into Hibernate mode when the backup battery is within 5mins (this is adjustable) giving out. With a P4 HT processor based File Server with four hard disks (mo monitor) this gave 15 minutes of backup time. This gave 10 minutes with windows running as normal and then if the mains supply to the APC has not come backup again, it will then go into Hibernate Mode. This unit is designed for preventing damage to the PC when the home mains supply drops out and enables the PC to do a controlled shut down (ie. Setting the PC into hibernate mode). Dont expect to be using the PC for half an hour with the house mains off as you will be disappointed.A very good unit that actually did as advertised, not very common these days in the world of consumer electronics.
