By now I’m sure we are all fully aware of Coronavirus and the threat it poses across the globe. Staff everywhere, from the NHS, Military and Police forces are working tirelessly in order to help minimise the very drastic impact it is having around the world and to fight against the virus in the future.
Last week the World Health Organisation officially declared COVID-19 a pandemic, reiterating that the creation of a successful vaccination is vital in order to stop the situation worsening.
While teams are working countless hours globally to try and discover what could possibly be the end to all this madness, it’s quickly being revealed that this may go on for some time, up to 18 months in fact.
We must say, the research is undoubtedly hard, with regular hurdles proving difficult to overcome. Because of this, we all need to work together in order to defeat this problem.
While it is extremely important to ensure we are helping in the ways asked of us by the Government, by washing our hands, restricting social contact and working from home when possible, we wanted to take it a step further and offer something to those conducting the life changing research.
To clarify, we are offering free access to our IBM Power9 AC922 Deep Learning server, along with our own high performing, in house systems which include a dual NVIDIA Quadro RTX 8000 workstation, and an 8 x NVIDIA V100 GPU server to any COVID-19 research teams. We are doing this in the hope that this will aid research and expedite a vaccine.
It may not seem like much to some, but to those conducting the work, we do hope this will ease some possible strain and even allow the teams to grow. More minds (and machines) working together is always better, we say!
Not to mention the size of the costing this form of critical research is quickly building. Simply with some free, high quality equipment, we are hoping to accelerate what could possibly be the end to this world-crisis, and we are happy to help as much as we can!
So, if you are a researcher working on anything COVID-19 related and would benefit from one of our Deep Learning Workstations, do not hesitate to get in contact. We will give them all out if we have too, to see the world back to how we like it- gamers gaming, computers being built, and everyone safe, healthy and happy.
